BACKGROUND: Intestinal Obstruction can be brought by many causes and it is one of common diseases in surgery practices. The repetitive outbreaks disturb the peace of people's living and even endanger their lives. There is saying in traditional Chinese Medicine, "If the viscera are not expedite, people will suffer from it ." The judgment of traditional Chinese Medicine accords with the pathogenesis of intestinal obstruction, therefore, method of Tongligongxia is applied. Dachengqi decoction is the traditional Chinese Tongligongxia herbs, and practices also prove that Dachengqi decoction have a good effect in treating incomplete intestinal obstruction. Now new type of preparation -Dachengqi granules has developed . Profound studies has carried out on their mechanisms. However, their protective effect against injury of the Intestinal Epithelial Cells (IEC) induced by incomplete intestinal obstruction has not been testified. OBJECTIVE: Study on the protective effects of Dachengqi granules against injury of IEC induced by incomplete intestinal obstruction in rats. METHODS: (1) Model Establishment: The 1/2 terminal ileum of rat was ligated as incomplete intestinal obstruction model. (2) Groups: Rats were randomly divided into groups: normal group, sham operated group, model group, excipient group, dachengqi granules groups: low dose(0.98 g/kg), middle dose(2.94 g/kg), high dose(8.82 g/kg) and Lactulose group(1.34 g/kg). Half-hour before the operation, drugs were given to the corresponding therapeutic groups, and then were continued at the same time for three days. Saline was given to the rats of normal, sham-operated and model groups according to the same method. For model and therapeutic groups, the intestines were made pinprick and clamped. For sham operated group, the intestines were only made pinprick. Normal group did nothing. (3) Items of Observation: assess and grade histological mucosal damage on the six point...
