Objective: To observe the change of the plasma IL-12. IL-4cytokine and IgE levels in patients with asthma. The effects werestudied in patients with asthma. to investigate the mechanism ofglucocorticoid treatment in asthmatic patients. Methods: the peripheral blood was drawn and the plasma IL-12,IL-4and IgE levels of control group and patients were detected bysandwich ABC-ELISA method before and after glucocortcoidtreatment. Peak Expiratory Flow Rate (PEF) of control group andpatients were measured by peak flow meter. PEF variant rate (%)=(max PEF -min PEF)/[1/2(max PEF +min PEF)]×100%. The resultswere analysed statistically. Results: (1) In asthmatic group, plasma IL-12 level was lowerthan those in control group (P<0.05); plasma IL-4 and IgE levels andPEF variant rate were higher than those in control group (P<0.05); (2)In asthmatic group, plasma IL-12 level was increased afterglucocortcoid treatment, but lower than those in control group(P<0.05); plasma IL-4 and IgE levels and PEF variant rate werereduced after glucocortcoid treatment, but higher than those incontrol group (P<0.05). (3) Correlation analysis showed that IL-4level positively correlated with the IgE level (r=0.88, P<0.05). TheIL-12level negatively correlated with IgE level (r=-0.61,P<0.05).
