| OBJECTIVE: The results of recent studies have suggested that women already diagnosedwith breast cancer have an increased risk of new primary tumors of the contralateral breastcompared with women without previous breast neoplasms. The aim of this study was tostudy the molecule-biology characteristic of bilateral primary breast cancer(BPBC),andforecast of BPBC.METHODS: Between 1989 and 2000,45 patients were diagnosed with BPBC in TianjinMedical University Cancer Hospital .41 patients with unilateral primary breastcancer(UPBC)were compared .Paraffin blocks from both breast specimens in 45 BPBCpatients and 41 UPBC patients were available and immunostained.Of the 45 paired BPBCand 41 UPBC specimens immunostained for CerbB-2,P53,Ki-67,nm23,ER and PR.Thosemolecule-biology indexs were compared in the first tumor and the second tumor of theBPBC speciments and the UPBC speciments.RESULTS:1. Those molecule-biology indexs were compared in the first tumor and the secondtumor of the BPBC speciments and the UPBC speciments①PR overexpression(++~+++)in the first tumor and the second tumor of the BPBC speciments and the UPBC speciments was 28(62.2%),18(40%)andl4(34.1%).The difference in PR overexpression between patients with the first tumor BPBC and UPBC was statistically significant(P<0.01), The difference in PR overexpression between patients with the first tumor and the second tumor BPBC was statistically significant(P<0.05), The difference in PR overexpression between patients with the sencond tumor BPBC and UPBC was no statistically significant(P>0.05). ② Nm23 overexpression(++~+++)in the first tumor and the second tumor of the BPBCspeciments and the UPBC speciments was 18(40%),18(40%)and26(63.4%).The difference in nm23 overexpression between patients with the first tumor BPBC and UPBC was statistically significant(P<0.05), The difference in nm23 overexpression between patients with the sencond tumor and UPBC was statistically significant(P<0.05), The difference in nm23 overexpression between patients with the first tumor and the sencond tumor BPBC was no statistically significant(P>0.05).(3) Ki-67 overexpression(++~+++)in the first tumor and the second tumor of the BPBC speciments and the UPBC speciments was 17(37.8%),6(13.3%)and5(12.2%).The difference in Ki-67 overexpression between patients with the first tumor BPBC and UPBC was statistically significant(P<0.01), The difference in Ki-67 overexpression between patients with the first tumor and the second tumor BPBC was statistically significant(P<0.01), The difference in Ki-67 overexpression between patients with the sencond tumor BPBC and UPBC was no statistically significant(P>0.05). ?P53^ cerbB-2> ER overexpression(++~+++)in the first tumor and the second tumor of the BPBC speciments and the UPBC speciments were no statistically significanf(P>0.05). 2. The combination of those molecule-biology indexs were compared between thefirst tumor of the BPBC speciments and the UPBC speciments ? CerbB-2(++~+++)ER(++~+++)in the first tumor of the BPBC speciments and the UPBC speciments was 7(15.6%),l(2.4%).The difference in CerbB-2(++~+++)ER(++~ +++)between patients with the first tumor of BPBC and UPBC was statistically significant(P<0.05), CerbB-2(++~+++)PR(++~+++)in the first tumor of the BPBC speciments and the UPBC speciments was 9(20%),0(0).The difference in CerbB-2(++~ +++)PR(++~~+++)between patients with the first tumor of BPBC and UPBC was statistically significant(P<0.01). PR(- ~ +)ER(- — +)in the first tumor of the BPBC speciments and the UPBC speciments was ll(24.4%),20(48.8%).The difference in PR(-~ +)ER(-~+)between patients with the first tumor of BPBC and UPBC was statistically significant(P<0.05). |
