Tartary buckwheat (F. tataricum) being polygonaceae contains plenty of the flavonoids, especially rutin, the amount of rutin of which is 30-150 times higher than that in common buckwheat. These flavonoids have been proved to have antioxidative, antihypertensive and anti-inflammatory activities and so on. Therefore, Tatary buckwheat has been concerned widely in rencent years. In this paper the chemical constituents and the optimum ultrasonic extract techonology of flavonoids from F.tataricum were studied. In addition, the progess of studies on this plant was summarized. The systematic pretest on chemical constituents from F. tataricum were done by the tube-test method. It was found that F. tataricum contains flavonoids, lactones, coumarin, carbohydrates, amino acid and protein, possibly contains tannin, alkaloid, and saponin, steroids, terpenoids, cardiac glycosid and volatile oil are absent probably. Orthogond test scheme L16(43×26) was utilized to study the optimum ultrusonic extract techonology of flavonoids from F.tataricum, and solvent concentration, temperature, time and solvent types were choosed as influence factors. Rutin was provided as investigation quota. Then, determined the content of rutin in F. tartaricum with UV/Vis Spectro-meter. At last, defined the optimum extraction technology. The result showed that the optimum ultrusonic extract techonology is 950 mL/L methanol for ultrasonic extracting 15 min in 40 ℃condition. Ten compounds (J-1,J-2,J-3,J-4,J-6,J-7,J-8,J-9,J-10,J-11) were isolated from 95% ethanol extract of raw material by means of solvent extraction, column chromatography on silica gel, five developing solvent(CHCl3→CHCl3-MeOH-H2O(9:1:0.5; 7:3:0.5; 1:1:0.5) →MeOH) was used respectly and Sephadex LH-20 purification lastly. Based on spectral analysis (UV, FAB MS, 1H NMR,13C NMR, DEPT),the structures of 2,3,24,25-tetramethyl –hexacosane(J-1), umbelliferone(J-2), quercetin(J-3), kaempferol-3-rutinoside(J-4) and (-)-epicatechin(J-7) and rutin(J-9) were elucidated.Among them, compound umbelliferone (J-2) was found from this plant for the first time.
