Objective: To study the changes of clinical symptoms and levels of eosinophils, interIeukin4(IL-4) , immunoglobulinE(IgE) in blood and the influences of the lung functions, after Seretide treating patients with moderate asthma, in the same time, to study the relations of them. Methods: The number of eosinophils was determined by Japanese Sysmex SF-3000 full-automatic blood-cell analysis instrument . The serum levels of IL-4,IgE were detected with antibody clips the heart ELISA method. The lung functions were done by Quark PFT4 made in Italy. We observed the improvement of symptoms and the changes of these indexes, before and after Seretide treating 32 patients with moderate asthma for four weeks. Results: The symptoms of 26 out of 32 patients(81.3%)with moderate asthma improved after Seretide treating for four weeks, the symptoms had nothing to do with the number of eosinophils in blood, they were in positive correlation with the serum levels of IL-4,IgE ,but were in negative correlation with the lung functions. The number of eosinophils in blood was always within normal limit, before and after Seretide treating ,it showed no difference(P=0.26).The serum levels of IL-4, IgE were obviously lower than those in no treatment stage(P<0.01),the level of IgE was in positive correlation with that of IL-4(r=0.92, 0.97, P<0.001) . The lung functions were obviously higher than those in no treatment stage(P<0.01).The levels of IL-4, IgE were in negative correlation with the lung functions before and after Seretide treating(r= -0.80, -0.72, -0.57, -0.56,P<0.001)Conclusions: Seretide was very safe and efficient in treating patients with moderate asthma. The number of eosinophils in blood of patients with moderate asthma in this trial was not high and Seretide treating was probably no...
