Expression Of Matrix Metalloproteinase-9 And TIMP-1 In Endometrial Hyperplasia And Their Significance

Objective: To study the expression of matrix metalloproteinases-9 (MMP-9) and tissueinhibitors of metalloproteinases-1 (TIMP-1) in endometrial hyperplasia and to assess thechanges of MMP-9 and TIMP-1 induced by progesterone (P), for the purpose ofunderstanding the theroy of MMP-9 and TIMP-1 in endometrial hyperplasia.Material and Methods: The expression of MMP-9 and TIMP-1 proteins was detected byimmunohistochemical staining S- P method in 20 cases of normal proliferativeendometrium and 61 cases of endometrial hyperplasia .18 cases of complex hyperplasiaand 23 cases of atypical hyperplasia were detected again after progesterone therapy for 3months.Statistical analysis was performed by X~2and coefficient of correlativity.Results: The positive expression rates of MMP-9 , TIMP-1 in normal proliferativeendometrium and endometrial hyperplasia were gradually increased. The expression ofMMP-9 and TIMP-1 in atypical hyperplasia andcomplex hyperplasia was significant higher than normal proliferative endometrium andsimple hyperplasia(P<0.05) .After 3 months of progesterone therapy ,the expression ofMMP-9 , TIMP-1 in atypical hyperplasia and complex hyperplasia was decreased.Therewas no significant difference in the four group(P>0.05).Positive correlation was alsofound between MMP-9 and TIMP-1 expression.Conclusion: Abnormal expression of MMP-9 and TIMP-1 proteins is associated withcarcinogenesis of endmotrium.There are early events in endometrial carcinogenesis anduseful biomarkers for early detection.
