Objective: laryngopharynx carcinoma is high frequency one in all head and neck malignant tumor. It is important to study the relation between expression of PTEN and CD34 in laryngeal carcinoma and its' clinical characteristics for knowing biological action of laryngeal tumor. Through the investigation about the expression of blood vessel endothelium antigen CD34 and tumor suppressor gene PTEN in laryngopharynx carcinoma to study the relevance of CD34 and PTEN with proliferation metastasis and invasive ability of laryngopharynx carcinoma. Method: 36 laryngopharynx squmous cell carcinoma patients were chosen from all whose underwent primary surgical resection at our department between 1996 and 2000.The immunohistochemistry method was employed to detect the expression of CD34 and PTEN in the normal tissue adjacent to the laryngopharynx tissue and the tumor tissue. Result:The average MVD of CD34 in all the 46 laryngopharynx case is 36.2 while all the normal tissue is 9.8. The differentia is remarkable. The expression rate of PTEN in the tumor tissue is 30.556% while in the normal tissue is 100% and the expression is variable according to the pathological grade , the primary position (sinus piriformis area, postcricoid area and pharynx posterior wall area), the clinical stage ( â…  - â…¡ , â…¢ -â…£). Conclusion: It is presumed that the expression of CD34 and PTEN is involved in the carcinogensis, progression and metastasis of laryngopharynx carcinoma.
