Removing the infected outer carious dentin is the most conservative cavity preparation. The Carisolv chemo-mechanical caries removal method is such a minimal traumatic method for caries removal, which can soften the carious dentin by chemical agents and remove the infected carious dentin by specially designed instruments. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of caries removal and clinical feature with Carisolv by using scanning electron micrograph, light micrograph, shear bond strength test.Experiment I: Objective: To analyze the different surface characteristics of the dentine cavity floor created after preparation with Carisolv or conventional drilling. Method: Nine extracted carious teeth were divided into three different groups. One group was not treated. The other two groups were using bur or Carisolv to remove carious dentin respectively. All teeth were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Result: The cavity surface of the drilling group appeared rougher with irregular particles scattered throughout the surface area. A well-defined smear layer was detected. The dentine tubule orifices were plugged with material. The cavity surface of the Carisolv group showed that the smear layer was consistently removed and the dentinal tubules of carious dentin were exposed. Conclusion: Carisolv produced a cavity surface with little smear layer.Experiment II: Objective: To evaluate the effect of carious dentin removal with Carisolv or traditional drilling. Method: Nine extracted carious teeth were divided into three groups, namely control group, drilling group and Carisolv group. Control group was not treated. Drilling group was using bur to remove carious dentin, while Carisolv group was using Carisolv. Then the teeth were made into ground sections, which were examined under light micrograph.
