Detailed Outline For Benefiting Female is the most noted work of the famous doctor Wu Zhiwang in Ming Dynasty, during the years of Wanli and Taichang. It includes all of the author's knowledge and study in his life. The book is based on the book of Gynecological Standards For Diagnosis And Treatment, and many more other ancient works. Wu Zhiwang kept on collecting remedies and prescriptions from a broad way and classified them into different categories. It involved both theories and clinical practices. There are five volumes, which include thirteen parts in the following, that is, adjustment of monthly, miscellaneous disease, pregnancy, cases of mother—to—be, cases after birth. It also includes about 1600 prescriptions, which provide us many new ways to solve clinical problems. Wu Zhiwang wrote the book on the basis of many compositions of many medical scientists. For example, Internal Classic, Treatise on Febrile Disease, Experiences on Protecting Life,The Complete Efficacious Prescriptions for Women's Disease, etc. The doctors refered to in the book include Xue Ji, Chen Ziming, Zhu Danxi, Li Dongyuan, Xu Shuwei and many unrecorded characters. There are 252 clinical examples in the book, of which 189 are from Xue Ji's recording. The book consists of 1691ancient medical prescriptions, both for internal and external use. Fourth, the literature value of the book is very important. It concludes more than sixty kinds of the ancient books, most of which don't exist now. These books it referred to can reflect the extant books in the Ming Dynasty and give us the first—handed information about the medical research at that time. So in some extent it has enriched the banks of medical literatures. The book includes many characters in TCM, and most doctors that recorded in medical history, such as Zhu Danxi, Li Dongyuan, Xu Shuwei, Zhang Zihe, Chen Wuze and so on.
