Objective: To investigate anti-aging and immunoenhancement effectof sheep placenta-pearl capsule and its mechanisms. Methods: Agingrats which were divided into three groups were administered with sheepplacenta -pearl capsule 0.84g/kg,0.42g/kg and 0.21g/kg respectively by i.g.for 7 weeks, then measuring superoxide dismutase(SOD) activity inserum and brain tissues and malondialdehyde (MDA) content in serumand brain and liver tissues. Three groups of mice were administered withsheep placenta -pearl capsule 1.2g/kg, 0.6g/kg and 0.3g/kg respectively byi.g. for 20 days, then observing swimming time and anoxia resistancetime under normal pressure of mice. Three groups of mice wereadministered with sheep placenta -pearl capsule 1.2g/kg,0.6g/kg and0.3g/kg respectively by i.g. for 20 days, then observing macrophagephagocytic function and the weights of immune organs. Administeredwith sheep placenta -pearl capsule for 5 days, then observing hemolysinin serum. Three groups of emasculated rats were administered withsheep placenta-pearl capsule 0.84g/kg, 0.42g/kg and 0.21g/kg respectivelyby i.g. for 20 days, then observing latent period of penis erection and theweights of foreskin gland ,seminal vesicles and prostates of emasculatedrats. Results: Sheep placenta -pearl capsule increased obviously SODactivity in serum ( P<0.01and P<0.05 ) at the middle and high dosesand increased obviously SOD activity in brain tissues (P<0.05) at thehigh doses of aging rats. The middle and high doses decreasedsignificantly MDA content in serum and in liver tissues (P<0.01 andP<0.05). All of dose groups decreased obviously MDA content in braintissues. All of dose groups showed sheep placenta -pearl capsuleextended evidently swimming time (P<0.01) and anoxia-resistant timeunder normal pressure (P<0.01) of mice.
