Abstract/Summary:
[Object] To evaluate the relationship between serum pepsinogen levels and gastric cancer.[Method] Radioimmunoassay was used to detect the contents and changes of the PGI, PGIIof the patients with peptic ulcer, gastric cancer and other diseases of the stomach compared with those of the normal control group. The results were analyzed by statistics method.[Result] Compared with healthy controls ,the serum PGI , PG II levels of duodenal ulcer and PGI of gastric ulcer patients were significantly higher. The serum PGI levels of gastritis patients were significantly lower and the serum PGI levels and PGI , PG II ratio of gastric cancer patients were much more lower. After total gastrectomy ,the serum PGI and PG II levels of patients with recurrence of gastric cancer were significantly higher than those without recurrence. Using the cutoff value of 35ng/ml for PG I and 1.5 for PGI/PGII ratio ,the sensitivity and specificity of the combined tests for gastric cancer was 72.5% and 82.3% respectively.[Conclusion] The changes of serum PGI and PG II levels are valuable for diagnosis of gastric cancer and monitoring the recurrence of gastric cancer after total gastrectomy.
