Objective To study the practical value of selective embolization of blood supply arteries in otorhinolaryngology. Methods Digital substraction angiogrophy(DSA) and selective arterial embolization were carried out in 24 cases of otorhinolaryngological diseases. Results 20 cases underwent operation after selective embolization of blood supply arteries and the amount of bleeding in operation was reduced greatly in 18 cases, while blood loss during the surgery of another 2 cases was still considerable because both external carotid artery and internal carotid artery supplied the tumor, but we only embolized the external carotid artery. 3 cases didn't operate after embolization and the tumor shrank significantly. 1 case of intractable epistaxis due to the rupture of pseudoaneurysm after radiotherapy of nasopharyngeal carcinoma was controlled quickly by arterial embolization. Conclusion Selective embolization of blood supply arteries adjunct to surgery for the treatment of the common otorhinolaryngological tumors and vascular malformation which blood supply is plenty such as juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma, nasal sinuses angioma et al can reduce the intraoperation bleeding greatly and benefit to resect thoroughly. It's also an effective method to control the intractable epistaxis. But the selection of emboli, embolismic methods and the prevention of complications are also very important.
