The Effect of Somatostatin Analogue in the Treatmentof Non-variceal upper Gastrointestinal Bleeding.BACKGROUND/AIMS: The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of somatostatin analogue Octreotide combined porton pump inhibitors Omeprazole VS only Omeprazole in controlling acute non-variceal gastrointestinal bleeding. METHODOLOGY:A total of 90 patients with acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding due to duodenal or gastric ulcer were randomly divided into 2 groups. Group I, the joints, consisted of 45 patients were treated with Octreotide 0.1 mg i.v. Followed by continuous i.v. infusion at a rate of 0.6 mg/d for 72h. Group â…¡,the controls, consisted of 45 patients were treated with Omeprozole 40mg /d by continuous i.v. infusion for 72h. RESULTS: The time of bleeding stop was shorter in the joint groups than in the controls.(p<0.05). The rebleeding rate was lower on the treatment groups in Group â…  than Group â…¡ (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Octreotide combined Omeprazole is more effective than Omeprozole in controlling acute non-variceal gastrointestinal bleeding. Two groups have no adverse effects.
