ObjectiveTo investigate the antiatherogenetic effects of SWDS on hyperlipid-fed rabbits and elucidate its mechanism.MethodThe healthy white rabbits were randomly divided into six groups ,i.e. normal control group x model group(high lipid group) > Lovastatin capsules group and SWDS treating group (Including high> medium and low doses ). The rabbits were orally administrated for 8 weeks .At the end of 2^ 4 and 8 weeks ,serum lipoidemia was analyzed . At the end of 8 weeks, serum SOD - MDA and degree of pathologic change in the aortax liver and heart were detected .Result1. Different dose groups of SWDS could effectively decrease the level of total cholesterol(TC)xtriglyceride (TG) xlow density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and at the same time markedly increase the level of high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C). Compared with model group , high dose group is the most significant among the three doses.2. Different dose groups of SWDS could effectively reduce MDA in serum and the effect is significant between medium dose group and modle group. Compared with model group , different dose groups of SWDS could significantly reduce MDA in liver.3. Different dose groups of SWDS could effectively increase SOD activities in serum and the effect is significant between medium dose group and modle group. Compared with model group , different dose groups of SWDS could significantly increase SOD activities in liver.4. Pathologic study showed that different dose groups of SWDS could effectively decrease the total area and thickness of atherosclerosis plaques of aorta They caninhibit the fatty degeneration of liver cells and decrease the severity of atherosclerosis in heart muscle .ConclusionSWDS could play a role in antagonizing atherosclerosis and its main mechanism might associate with its capability of regultating lipid and inhibiting lipid peroxides.
