Objective: To explore the characteristic of trigeminal evoked potential(TEP) and pathology after cerebral ischemic preconditioning(CIP) of different time .Methods: 120 Wistar rats were randomly divided into 12 groups, the animal model of focal cerebral ischemia-reperfusion was established by occluding middle cerebral artery with suture. Sham-operated group (A group, n=10):only received operation without cerebral ischemia; Cerebral ischemia group(B group, n=10): cerebral ischemia for 2h after sham-operation for 2d, then reperfusion for Id; Preconditioning only group(C, D, E, F, G group, n=10): respectively received 8, 15, 25, 35, 45min cerebral ischemia; Ischemic preconditioning group(H, I, G, K, L group, n=10), cerebral ischemia for 2h after respectively receiving 8, 15, 25, 35, 45min cerebral ischemia, then reperfusion for 1d; Then TEPs were detected, brain were taken out for HE staining. Results: The basic waveform of TEP was N1-P-N2 type. The latencies of N1, P were increasingly prolonged, and the amplitudes of N1-P were increasingly decreased after the rat respectively received 8, 15, 25, 35, 45min cerebral ischemia. Ischemic preconditioning for 8min , the latencies of N1, P and the amplitude of N|-P compared with cerebral ischemia group were no significant difference, P > 0.05.But ischemic preconditioning for15, 25, 35, 45min , the latencies of N1. P and the amplitude of Nt-P compared with cerebral ischemia group were significant difference, P < 0.05. The HE staining shew that the damage of ischemic preconditioning forl5, 25, 35, 45min, compared with ischemic preconditioning for 8min and cerebral ischemia group, was significantly diminished. Conclusion: CIP for 15,25,35,45min could alleviate prolongation of N1, P latency and decrement of N1-P amplitude, the brain damage was significantly diminished; the changes of TEP are basically identicalto those of pathology, TEP is objective control standard to CIP.
