AIM:"Biochemical pregnancy" is to point thatβ-human chorionic gonadotrophin in blood or urine is positive, but terminates without visualization of a gestational sac through ultrasonographic check. In women those can conceive normally, it is always ignored as "menstrual delay" by mistake because earlier period check is too late. Under the treatment in infertility, along with the expansion of the in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer (IVF-ET), biochemical pregnancy has caused attention of related scholars as a kind of outcomes. It's occurrence account for 25~30% of total pregnancy rate (include biochemical pregnancy, ectopic pregnancy, abortion and clinical pregnancy till delivery). Why so many pregnancy terminate in biochemical pregnancy, so far , the reason is still not clear. The international and domestic related research is different to this view, having to dispute. Some think that the usage of lone-protocol will increase the occurrence rate of biochemical pregnancy; Some think that the periovulatory hormone level will affect the occurrence rate of biochemical pregnancy; but some hold the contradictory view, thinking that hormone level will not influence occurrence rate of biochemical pregnancy whatever the periovulatory hormone level is. This investigative purpose is to try to look for, in IVF-ET, which factors will affect or reflect to the occurrence of biochemical pregnancy from the following data: the patient's general status, controlled ovarian hyperstimulation protocol, hormone level, fertilized rate, ovum and embryo status, et al. Then inquiry into the influence factors that biochemical pregnancy occurrence.METHOD: The research object is 71 patients who were under the routine treatment of IVF or intracytoplasmic sperm injection in Reproductive Center of Da Lian Woman's hospital from July 16, 2000 to October 14, 2003 including 30 pregnancy patients terminated in biochemical pregnancy (below brief name "biochemical pregnancy") and 41 pregnancy patients which were clinical pregnancy till delivery (below brief name "continued pregnancy"). Track and record their data of general status, controlled ovarian hyperstimulation protocol, hormone level, fertilized rate, ovum and embryo status. Then analysis these data with t-test (for metric data) or χ2-test (for count data) trying to look for some positive index.RESULTS: (1) There are no statistically differences between the two groups in data of general status, down-regulation and controlled ovarian hyperstimulation protocol. (2) There are no statistically differences between the two groups in hormone level of menstrual day 2, the day injection HCG, and the fourth day after embryo transfer. But the hormone level of biochemical pregnancy group is statistically lower than that of continued pregnancy group during pregnancy day, the second and the third time after pregnancy day (P<0.05). (3) There are no statistically differences between the two groups in the number of follicular (>=14mm) and oocytes retrieved and embryos transferred. But the fertilized rate of biochemical pregnancy (64.25%) is statistically lower than that of continued pregnancy group (76.22%). (4) The numbers of grade 1embryo in first and second day of biochemical pregnancy are lower than that of continued pregnancy group. There are no statistically differences between the two groups in the number of the rest of grade embryo. CONCLUSIONS: (1)The fertilized ability of oocytes may have something to do with the occurrence of biochemical pregnancy. Lower fertilized rate inclines to occurrence of biochemical pregnancy.(2)The embryo quantity may affect the occurrence of biochemical pregnancy. Biochemical pregnancy easily takes place under the situation of lower number of 1 grade embryo.(3)The hormone level after pregnancy may reflex the developing direction of early pregnancy.
