Study On The Enteral Nutrition Support In Patients With Abdominal Surgery

Objective: To evaluate the feasibility of early postoperative enteral nutrition(EN) in abdominal surgical patients and compare the efficacy of enteral nutrition with Peptison Liquid and conventional treating methods. The recovery of gastrointestinal function, ameliorate nutrition status and immune function are observed.Methods: Forty cases with abdominal surgery were randomized into two groups-the EN group (n=20) and the control group (n=20). The EN group were given nutrition support with Peptison Liquid at 24~48 hours after operation from jejunostomy tude which insertedin the jejunum during the operation. The course were continued for consecutive 7 days. The control group were treated with conventional methods.Anthropometric, total lymphocyte, prealbumin level, albumin level and gastrointestinal functions were monitored.Results: All cases were discharged in good condition on schedule, except one case in EN group discontinued because of intolerance to obvious abdominal distension. The EN group passed flatus much earlier than the control group(P<0.01), while the patients passed stool were no significant change in both groups (P>0.05). When it is compared in 8 days postoperatively with tha in preoperation, Prealbumin level and total lymphocyte were increased significantly (P<0.01) in the EN group , while it was no significant changed in the control group(P>0.05). The weight of the patients were decreased significantly(P<0.01). No difference was found in albumin level in the two groups (P>0.05).Conclusion: The early postoperative Enteral nutritionwith Peptison Liquid was a kind of secure, reasonable and effective nutrition method for the patients with major abdominal surgery after 24-48 hours later. In comparison with conventional treating methods , the early enteral nutrition promote the recovery of gastrointestinal function, ameliorate nutrition status and immune function.
