Objective: To explore the role of ultrasonography in the evaluation of the lacrimal glands in primary Sjogren's Syndrome and to compared with correlated laboratory examinations and labial gland biopsy . Methods: 53 female patients affected by primary Sjogren's Syndrome and 61 normal women were examined by ultrasonography,Schirmer test, corneal staining,anti-SSA/SSB antibody and labial gland biopsy respectively. Results: 1) 29 cases were bilaterally larger lacrimal glands than control subjects(P<0.01),PSV and RI of the lacrimal arteries were higher than normal(P<0.01); 13 cases were single larger than control subjects(P<0.01), PSV and RI of the lacrimal arteries were higher than normal(P<0.01); About 11 cases had no difference with normal(P>.05). 2) Compared with three laboratory examinations, ultrasound had higher sensitivity and specificity and better agreement. 3).According to correlation analysis between ultrasonography and labial gland biopsy, we could take stages for primary Sjogren's Syndrome. Conclusion: Ultrasonography is an important method in the diagnosis of lacrimal glands in primary Sjogren's Syndrome .
