Objective To assess the association between polymorphisms of β2AR coding block 16, 27 loci and COPD in Southwest Han Chinese Subjects. We aimed to elucidate whether the polymorphisms of β2AR affect development of COPD the pulmonary function and clinical phenotypes of COPD patients or not It may provide a new idea for comprehending the pathogenesis of COPD; and furthermore, to put forward the clue for COPD classification by genotypes, which would pre-determinate the pulmonary function's decrease and the prognosis of various clinical phenotypes, then draw up reasonable preventing and treatment strategy for individual COPD. Methods The frequencies of genotypes and alleles of β2AR gene 16, 27 loci were detected using direct sequencing in 90 COPD patients and 82 healthy controls. The results compared with various ethnic groups. We also analysed the relationship between it and the FEV1 value of COPD patients and it's, distribution in the two clinical phenotypes of COPD patients. Results The distribution of the frequencies of genotypes and allele of β2AR gene 16, 27 loci had significant differences in the various ethnic groups. No significant differences were observed in the COPD patients and healthy controls of the present study population. A significant correlation between the Gly16 β2AR polymorphism and FEV1 value was found(P<0.05). Patients with ArgGly and GlyGly variants had a lower FEV1 value than did patients with the ArgArg. Gly16 and Gln27 alleles mainly distributed in the blue bloater in the COPD patients. Conclusions The distribution of polymorphisms of β2AR gene coding block 16, 27 loci are significant differences in the various ethnic groups. It suggests that ethnic groups may affect gene mutation. The polymorphisms of β2AR gene coding block 16,27 loci may not be associated with development of COPD, but maybe correlated with lung fiinction and different phenotypes of COPD patients in the present study population.
