Objective: To research the clinical curative effect of peripheral facial paralysis in acute stage by acupuncture combined with western medicine. Methods: Sixty cases of peripheral facial paralysis were randomly divided into two groups. Group A was treated by acupuncture combined with western medicine, group B by western medicine. The therapeutic effects were analyzed according to clinical symptoms and signs and House-Brachmann criterion after 14 days. Results: After 14 days, the recovery of patients' facial nervous function of acupuncture combined with western medicine group was obviously superior to another group (P<0.05). Conclusions: The above results suggest that treating peripheral facial paralysis in acute stage by acupuncture combined with western medicine can shorten obviously development of the disease and improve cure rate.
