Objective Viral Hepatitis B is a kind of major disease harmful to people health. When suffering from this disease, one could develop multi-systemic and/or multi-organic dysfunctions, including one common type of iron metabolic derangement. Iron metabolic derangement possibly affects lipid peroxidization and aggravates liver injury of the patients with viral hepatitis B. Till now, there is no report about the relationship between serum iron ( SI ) , serum ferritin ( SF ) and peroxide dismutase ( SOD ) and malenodial-dehyde(MDA). Our study is to investigate the relationship between iron metabolic derangement and lipid peroxidizing injury in the patients with viral Hepatitis B by evaluating the Quantity indexes between them. Methods 25 cases with viral Hepatitis B and 25 examples of healthy volunteers were enrolled, the indexes of serum iron( SI) , serum ferritin ( SF), peroxide dismutase (SOD) and malenodial-dehyde(MDA) were detected. SI was detected by chromatometry, SF by125 I radio-immunity, SOD by xanthine oxidase method, and MDA by sulf-barbituric acid method. Results There were significant difference between the indexes of SI, SF, SOD and MDA of the patients with viral Hepatitis B{(28.70 10.56)umol/L,t = 2.81.P < 0.01;(420.15 ?130.28)ng/ml,t = 9.23,P < 0.01;(79.81 + 12.53)NU/mg pro,t= 6.10,P< 0.01;(6.32 1.57)nmol/mg pro, t = 6.41,P < 0.01;respectively}and those of healthy volunteers. {(21.50 7.28)umol/L,(170.50 36.47)ng/ml,(105.30 16.72)NU/mg pro,(4.15 0.63)nmol/ mg 'pro;respectively}There were positive correlations between the levels of SI , SF and MDA, and negative ones between the levels of SI , SF and MDA.Conclusions The patients with viral Hepatitis B exist iron metabolicderangement and the enhancement of lipid peroxidizatibn. Moreover, iron metabolic derangement is closely related to lipid peroxidization lipid peroxidization. Therefore, it perhaps provides a reasonable interfering target to relieve lipid peroxidization injury and improve the prognosis of the patients with viral Hepatitis B.
