Objective: To investigate the ralationship between the expression of cyclooxygenase2(COX-2) protein and malignant transformation of hydatidiform mole. Methods: The subject were 22 cases normal chorionic villy samples, 26 cases molar tissues without maliganant transformation and 21 cases molar tissues with maliganant transformation including 13 cases malignant mole and 8 cases choriocarcinoma. Using streptavidin-biotin peroxidase(S-P) methods of immunohistochemisty, we examined the expression of COX-2 protein in these tissues. Results: 1. COX-2 protein were detected in 10/22 normal chorionic villy samples, in 15/26 molar tissues without maliganant transformation and in 21/21 molar tissues with maliganant transformation. The diffirences of protein expression of COX-2 in the tissues without maliganant transformation and in normal chorionic villy samples were not significan (p>0. 05). The protein expression of COX-2 in the molar tissues with maliganant transformation was higher than those in normal chorionic villy samples and molar tissues without maliganant transformation, (p<0. 05, p<0. 05). 2. In all 21 cases molar tissues without maliganant transformation, the diffirences of protein expression of COX-2 in the malignant mole and choriocarcinoma were not significant(p>0. 05). 3. The diffirences of protein expression of COX-2 in diffirent age groups of malignant mole were not significant(A>#. 05).Conclusion: 1. COX-2 may be an important factor of the malignant transformation of hydatidiform mole.2.The diffirences of the protein expression of COX-2 in the two. diffirent molar tissues with maliganant transformation, (malignant mole and choriocarcinoma) were not significant. 3. The diffirences of the protein expression of COX-2 in the diffirent ages of malignant mole were not significant. 4. The expression level of COX-2 in molar tissues with malignant transformation were significantly higher than that in molar tissues without malignant transformation, which may be provide a theoretical basis for prediction of malignant transformation of hydatidiform mole.
