Objective To explore the value of preservation of the intercostobrachial nerve during axillary lymph node dissection for breast cancer Methods A retrospecting analysis to 37 patients with breast cancer on axillary lymph node dissection was carried outo The intercostobrachial nerve was preserved in 19 patients and not in other 18 patients After operation, sensory function of the upper arm was examined Results The postoperation morbidity of arm sensory disturbance was 5.3% in the intercostobrachial nerve preservation group and 66.7% in the intercostobrachial nerve section group There was significantly different between the two group (P<0.01) No difference was noted in the local recurrence rate between the two groups Conclusion Preservation the intercostobrachial nerve may significantly decrease the morbidity of postoperation arm sensory disturbance during axillary lymph node dissection so as to improve the life quality of the patients...
