BackgroundThe surveillance and control of the medical vector at national territorial port is the most important and basic task of port health control and monitor system of infectious diseases. With the globalization of economy and rapid development of the aviation industry, the importance of surveillance and control of the medical vector at air harbor and port is even more distinct. Three airports, namely, Shenzhen Airport, Peking Airport, and Shanghai Airport were authenticated as international sanitary airport by WHO in succession. This not only improves the international images of Chinese air harbour and ports, but also provide a model of port health control for other airports which fighting for international sanitary airport at the same time. At present, Hang Zhou International Airport is striving for the declaration vigorously.PurposeMaster the information about the species, density, seasonal growth and decline e.t.c of the medical vector at Hang Zhou International Airport comprehensively; evaluate the present condition of the control ofmedical vector at Hang Zhou International Airport according to national standard and the essentials of the international sanitary airports; put forward specific measures, which would lay a solid foundation for Hang Zhou International Airport to be national civilized and sanitary port and also international sanitary airport.MethodWe had spot investigation and experiments on medical vector at Hang Zhou International Airport for one year from April 2001 to March 2002 to understand the species, density and seasonal growth and decline of medical vector. This investigation mainly includes the distribution of the species, density and seasonal growth and decline of different medical vector animals and some surface parasites, such as flea, tick, and chigger. SPSS were be used to analyze the results, in which t-test, matched t-test and analysis of variance were adopted. Combining with the national standard of the control of medical vector, the results are compared with periphery areas and three authenticated airports.ResultDuring the course of the investigation, totally 644 miniature animals and 1137 ectoparasites have been collected from different habitat at Hang Zhou International Airport, which were classified intofive order, seven family, ten genera and thirteen species.Of the medical animals, the average density of field habitat(artificial scrub) is 6.89% (1.90%?0.24%), dominated by A.agrarius Pallas (75.55%), while indoor habit was 1.83% (0%?.96%), dominated by Rattus norvegicus(50.54%) and Apodemus agrarius(26.88%),to indoor freight warehouse, Apodemus agrarius and Rattus norvegicus are 56.63% and 33.73% respectively; in the indoor special habitat pantry company, 9 out of total 10 samples are Mus musculus. The constitution of the animals at different spot arestatistically significant (X2=l 98.78, P<.01 ), the average yearly density of different habitat are statistically significant (t=6.544,P<0.01). The condition of animal reproduction was as following: the average rate of pregnancy, 23.73%, the average babies at one farrow, 5.09, the highest rate of pregnancy is in July, 47.62%, the lowest rate of pregnancy occurred from November to the next February, no pregnant animals was found. Seasonal growth and decline of animal species: seasonal growth and decline of Apodemus agrarius appeared two peaks (from May to June, October), while Rattus norvegicus arose only once (September).Ectoparasites which belong to the order of tick and mite can be classified into three family, four genera and six species. To all theanimals, 34.01% (7.69%-60.26%) carried gamasid mite, the total index of gamasid mite is 1.7624(0.0769-9.2667), and dominated by undefined gamasid mite (46.74%)and H.glasgowi Ewing(34.48%) respectively. The seasonal decreasing and increasing of gamasid mite has one peak and two bottom (low in March and May, high in October) .The carrier rate of different months is statistically significant (X2=57.719,P<0.01), the rate of carriers o...
