| Objective: To evaluate the effects of Yougui Yin(YGY) on serum sex hormones and monoamine neurotransmitter of hypothalamus in androgen-induced sterile rats (ASR).Methods: ASR model was established by injecting testosterone propionate 1. 25mg subcutaneously to wistar female rats at the age of 9 days. Vaginal smear was screened to determine if the model is successful or not for 10 days from the age of 70 days. ASR model was set up successfully if it was without normal cycle when screened by vaginal smear. One ml of YGY was fed in the YGY group and 1ml of normal saline in the model group and the control group at fixed time everyday for four weeks from the age of 80 days, respectively. Vaginal smear was screened again for 14 daysfrom the age of 94 days to observe the sex cycle. At the age of 108 days, the effects of YGY on the levels of serum sex hormones were measured by radioimmunoassay and monoamine neurotransmitter of hypothalamus were observed by HPLC.Results: The experiment showed that the vaginal smear in the YGY group and the control group had normal cycle, and that in the model group did not exhibit normal cycle. The serum levels of follicular stimulating hormone (FSH) , luteinizing hormone(LH), estrogen(E2) and progesterone(P) increased significantly(P<0. 01), the hypothalamus contents of monoamine neurotransmitter including norepinephrine(NE) and dopamine(DA) increased significantly(P<0. 01) and the 5-hydroxytryptamine(5~HT) decreased significantly(P<0.05) in the YGY group as compared with those in the model group.Conclusion: The function of sex gland axis and serum sex hormone were probably disturbed by injecting testosterone propionate to the female rats of 9 days old .YGY is an effective recipe in promoting ovulation , the effects may be relevant to the adjusting of serum sex hormone and monoamine neurotransmitter of hypothalamus.
