Methods PBMC from both Vitiligo and normal controls were cultured with and without ConA. Culture supernatants were assayed for IL-2, IL-10 and IFN-r by enzyme-linked immunoadsorption assay(ELISA). The expression of IL-8 mRNA in cutured cells were measured by semiquantitative reverse-transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR). Results PBMCs from Vitiligo patients produced less IL-10(P<0. 05) and more IFN-r (P<0.05) than those from normal controls. The IL~2mRNA expression in PBMCs from Vitiligo patients were significantly higher than those from normal controls(P<0.05). The IL-2mRNA expression in PBMCs from Vitiligo patients and controls with ConA stimulating were significantly higher than their corresponding without ConA stimulating respectively(P<0.01, P<0.05). Conclusion The Th1 cell-mediated cytokine expression of Vitiligo is up-regulated, the Th2 cell-mediated cytokine expression is down-regulated, which may play a role in the pathogenesis of Vitiligo.
