OBJECTIVE: The research was aimed to study the change of NSE . IL-6 in serum of newborns with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy and make out the relationship between the HIE patients and the function of throid.METHODS: We measured NSE , IL-6 in serum with immunoassay of HIE(32) and normal control(9).RESULTS: The results showed that the NSE, IL-6 in serumwith HIE was significantly higher than normal control(p<0.05). At different stage of HIE, infants with stage 3 had significantly higher serum NSE levels than infants with stage 1 or stage 2(p<0.05). Infants with stage 3 or stage 2 had significantly higher serum NSE levels than infants without HIE(p<0.05). Infants with stage 3 had significantly higher serum IL-6 levels than infants without HIE(p<0.05).CONCLUSION: Our findings suggest that NSE and IL-6 in serum are reliable biochemical markers for early estimates of hypoxic-ischemic brain damage and have great value to judging thestage of HIE correctly.
