OBJECTIVE: To observe the curative effect of the methods of supplementing Qi, nourishing Yin and promoting blood circulation to remove meridian obstruction on diabetic foot.METHODS: 21 cases of diabetic foot were randomly divided into two groups. Under the same basic treatment, the treatment group (11 cases) was treated with Chinese herbal medicine taken orally and applied externally, which can supplement Qi, nourish Yin and promote blood circulation to remove meridian obstruction , while the control group (10 cases) was treated with anisodmine. The methods had been applied to the two groups for two months.REZULTS: In the treatment group, 3 cases were cured, 6 cases showed improved and 2 cases ineffective with the total effective rate of 81.8%. In thecontrol group, 2 cases were cured, 5 cases showed improved and 3 cases ineffective, the total effective rate being 70.0% . The comparison proved the curative effect in the treatment group was better than the control group (P<0.05). In the comparison between before and treatment, both treated groups were hemodynamic improvement in the dorsal pedis artery, while the comparison between these two groups showed that the treatment group had a superior effect on lower extremities' hemodynamics to that of the control group. The changes of the conduction velocity of nerve peroneus communis decreased greatly after treatment in the treatment group (P<0.01) and there was a significance between two groups after treatment (P<0.01).CONCLUSION: The therapeutic effect of the treatment group was prominently better than that of anisodamine application in the treatment. The methods of supplementing Qi, nourishing Yin and promoting blood circulation to remove meridian obstruction are effective to treat diabetic foot.
