Objective: To explore the difference on food, occlusion development and dental crowding between the only children and children with siblings and food influenced on occlusion development and dental crowding in order to provide suggestion to prevention of malocclusions. Methods: Pupils in mixed dentition or early permanent dentition are selected by stratified ,non-proportion and cluster sampling in Fuzhou. It included questionaire and examination in this survey. The questionnaire was designed on literatures and pilot survey, including general items, diet, food habit, oral health item, et,al. The dentition was examined and the dentition phase , occlusion and caries were recorded in details. The investigators were trained together on uniform standards and passed coincidence examintion. 4000 pupils were surveyed and 371 cases were excluded for immigrant from other citys, congenital abnormality and disqualified questionnaires. The qualification percent was over 90%. Meanwhile, 10% of cases were selected to chect again on main item ,the KAPPA modulus was 0.85. All datas wererecorded and analyzed by SPSS 10.0 for windows. Results:The diet structure of only children is more suitable than children with siblings. Only children prefer to soft diet and dislike vegetable than children with siblings (P<0.01), and would rather to be eaten by parents than contrast group(P<0.05).The factor of gender age and soft diet played a major role in dentition development, while the fator of only children not. Dental age was bigger in girl and soft group than contrast groups, and ANOVA for PROC GLM was used to analyze the factors of only children and diet and their interaction on DFT, and the variances were different in statistics(P<0.05).The incidence of dental crowding in only children was higher than children with siblings. Logistic regression analysis of dental crowding showed that only children, soft diet, women, decayed or filled teeth, age and bad oral habit are risk factors. Conclusion: The dietary structure of only children is more delicate than children with siblings. This was the risk factor of dental crowding. It suggested that great change of food in contemporary people may effect the development of dental-occlusion.
