Objective: To observe the effect of YXL on PTZ-induced epileptic rats and investigate the related mechanisms.Methods: 60 SD rats were divided randomly into six groups. Slowly-kindling models were adapted. After drug-intervention, epileptic rat's behaviour, EEG and pathologic changes were compared. The changes of Ca2+ concentration were also tested in the serum, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and synaptosomes of Hippocampi.Results: 1. YXL effectively prolonged the potential time of epilepsy-attacks. The number of epileptic rats and the ampltitute of brain wave were also decreased. The frequency of EEG waves was improved (P<0.05). It showed dosadge-depended effect between YXL and epilepsy-attack. 2.The neuronal degeneration, lightly necrosis and glue hyperplasia were seen in YXL groups.3. YXL had noffect on serum Ca2+, but it decreased the Ca2+ concentration of synaptosomes and improved Ca2+ of CSF. In each group, Ca2+ concentration of CSF and synaptosomes showed middle linar relation.Conclusions: YXL can significantly improve epileptic rat's behaviour, EEG and tissure damage of the neurons. Maybe it is part of the effective mechanism that YXL can decrease Ca2+ concentration and over-discharge of the neurons.
