Objective: to explore the effect of As2O3 in APL treatment and to compare the effective rate of As2O3 vs chemotherapy with western medicine, the first-treated cases vs relapsed APL cases and M3a vs M3b .Methods: 60 cases of patients-in and patients-out are divided into two groups at random . 36 cases are treated by As2O3 as treatment group and 24 cases are treated by western medicine as control group , then observe the change of the clinical syndrom , peripheral hemogram and myelogram. The two groups are separately divided into first-treated patients and rel psed APL patients. According to myelogram , 36 patients in treatment group are divided into M3a and M3b.Results: it is found that As2O3 can significantly (p<0.05) relieve the clinical syndrom , increase the level of peripheral hemoglobin , platelet, decrease the number of promyelocytes, better the myelogram after treatment. The effective rate of treating APL with As2O3 hit 88.89%, higher than chemical therapy with western medicine, which is 75%. The effective rate of As2O3 in the treatment of first-treated patients is higher than that of relapsed APL patients . The difference between the effective rate of As2O3 in the treatment of M3a and M3b is very significant (p<0.01).Conclusion: As2O3 is a truely effective medicine for APL and has higher effective rate than chemotherapy with western medicine which is the same with the first-treated patients vs relapsed APL patients and M3a vs M3b.
