With the extensive application of modern information technology in education, multimedia assistant instruction (MAI) has become the inevitable trend in modem teaching. In our observation, however, we found that MAI is not widely used in classroom teaching yet.In a questionnaire survey to the teachers on use of multimedia technology in classroom, we found that 98.6% of the teachers thought MAI was essential to the course of medical genetics, but the available CAI hardware, software, and the teacher's ability to apply CAI are limited. This discouraged the teachers from designing and using MAI. 70% of the teachers hope that the MAI materials be readily available. In our questionnaire survey to the students, the result shows that most of the students thought MAI is helpful to their study but they are dissatisfied with the level of the quality and variety of the available MAI courseware. They wish more become available in future. The two results of questionnaire indicated that the multimedia technology has not been widely applied in classroom teaching, mainly because of the shortage of teaching material.It is the author's opinion drawn from past experience and research that the building of material library should be centered on the key concepts, under the guidance of integrable design. The hypermedia navigation system allows links be made expediently and flexibly. We initially designed a framework of teaching material library in medical genetics, then we popularized it among the professional teachers. The initial experimentation not only indicated a positive result, but also was accepted by those professional researchers. Through the result of 19 items investigation of those professional teachers, most of them think this kind of material library has the advantages such as reasonable framework, accurate description content, accordant knowledge character, suitable software practice, and easily copy or download the materials etc.. Although a few teachers think about general in some items, the statistic is not significant difference (P<0.05). It indicates that the teachers are satisfied comparatively with the whole systematic content, design of themenu, the selection of music in the background and etc. except the shortage of waiting to improve in the future.
