Clinical Study Of Adolescent Hyperthyroidism After Iodine-131 Therapy

Objective:To probe into the clinical curative effect,side affect and gratification degree of adolescent hyperthyroidism after131I therapyMethods:To analyse the material of 89 cases(age range from 14-25)treated with 131I for Graves` disease over 3 years follow-up and the patients gratification degree to the treatment was known with mail or interview.The result were evaluated by t-test and x2-test.Results:61 cases(68.5%)were once cured amone the 89 patients, improvement in 14 cases(15.7%),hypothyroidism in 11 cases(12.4%),ineffective in 3 cases(3.4%).there were no thyroid nodules, thyroid cancer, other malignances or leukemia in all cases after treatment, neither were teratogenesis in progeny of 26 legitimate. After 131I therapy,91% of patients were satisfied,5.6% felt it common, only 3.4% dissatisfied.Conclusion:131I was found to be an effective, economic and safe treatment of Graves` disease in adolescents (especially to the obviously goitrous patients), the treated patients have high gratification and it should be the preferred mode of therapy.
