Objective:We studied the effect of propofol on superoxide dismustase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and malonydialdehyde (MDA) in breast cancer patients during radical operation under propofol and isoflurane anesthesia with different oxygen concentrations, in order to reveal the antioxidative effect of propofol and select the proper oxygen concentration.Method:40 selected breast cancer patients, receiving redical operation, ASA I~II, were randomly divided into 4 groups (n=10). AI and AI groups were propofol groups, inhaling oxygen concentrations were 100% and 30%, respectively. BI and 82 groups were isoflurance groups, inhaling 100% 02 and 30%O2 mixed with 70%N2O, respectively. We recorded SBP, DBF, HR and SpO2 of all patients before anesthesia (T[), before (Ti) and after intubation (T3), after incision (74), one hour after anesthesiaC Tj), respectively. MDA level and SOD, GSH-Px activities were measured before anesthesia (TV ) , one hour after intubation (T25) and at the end of operation (T). Venus blood samples of 10 healthy women were collected as control (C group).Result:l.In breast cancer patients, MDA level was higher while SOD, GSH-Px activities were lower than those of healthy women.2.All patients ' blood dynamics were stable, blood pressure and heart rate were not fluctuant.3.The peroxidative reaction was significantly suppressed in A2 group. MDA level reduced and the activities of GSH-Px and SOD increased.4.Bi and 62 groups couldn't suppress the peroxidative reaction, MDA level increased all the time during surgery.5.MDA level in AI group decreased at first, after 2h it increased gradually. At the end of operation, there was no difference compared with that of before anesthesia. Conclusion:There is imbalance of peroxidation-antioxidation in breast cancer patients. Propofol has antioxidation activity, it can suppress lipid peroxidation and can enhance the activities of SOD and GSH-Px. By this way, propofol can change the imbalance status of superoxidation-antioxidation in breast cancer patients during surgery. Inhalation of low oxygen concentration is helpful to patients.
