Objective: To study the changes of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) and theirs clinical value in patients with type 2 diabetes, and to analyze the relationship between plasma VEGF and the urinary albumin excretion rate(UAER).Method: Enzyme - linked immunoassay (ELISA) and radioim-munoassay (RIA) was respectively used to measure the level of plasma VEGF and UAER in thirty type 2 diabetic nephropathy(DN), thirty type 2 diabetic patients with normal UAER(NUAER) and thirty normal subjects. At the same time, the plasma glucose, trilyc-eride, cholesterol and creatinine levels were measured.Result: The levels of plasma VEGF in normal subjects, NUARE and DN group were respectively (29. 23 ± 6. 60) pg/ml, (39.97 ± 19. 95) pg/ml and (51. 09 ± 22. 36) pg/ml. Compared with normal subjects. The plasma VEGF in DN and NUAER category were obviously higher (p<0. 01), and the levels of plasma VEGF was higher than those of NUAER group. The analysis of linear correlation showed that the plasma VEGF level was positively correlated with the UAER.Conclusion: The plasma VEGF level builds up in NUAER category and it was higher in DN group. The level of plasma VEGF is positively correlated with the UAER. These results suggest that the plasma VEGF level is an important index that shows the damage of function of vascular endotheliocyte, which may participate in the production and development of diabetic nephropathy, above all may play an important role in giving rise to proteinuria.
