Schizophrenia is one of the most common psychiatric disorders. Recent home statistic has seen a life-time prevalence of 6. 55%o and time-point prevalence of 5. 31%o for schizophrenia Of all sixteen million psychotic patients, schizophrenia accounts for seven million and eight hundred thousand patients. It takes up above two-thirds inpatients in psychiatric department. Schizophrenia wastes a lot of social materials annually and brings about heavy burden for society and family. In recent years, although many achievements have been gained in etiology and risk factors of schizophrenia, the concrete etiology and pathogenesis are uncertain. Until present, a few studies on risk factors of schizophrenia, especially in troop schizophrenia, were reported by standard case-control study methods in our country. In this research, a pair matching case-control study was conducted to investigate the possible risk factors on schizophrenia in both general population and troops. The results are as follows:1. The case-TControl study on risk factors of schizophrenia in general population101 consecutively first episode inpatients in recovering with schizophrenia were collected in Xi' an mental health center and department?4?of psychiatry in Xi' an Third employee hospital from December 1999 to march 2001, with the year of cases were 14 to 48 and the average age of 65 males was 25. 02?. 27, females was 24. 36?. 52. 101 controls that were matched with cases in age, sex, and residential area among non-psychiatric patients were collected in Xijing hospital and Xi'an Third employee hospital. Univariate analyses showed that positive family history of psychiatry, misfortune in childhood, be in the sulks, introversive characters, single, tense relationship with parents, tense relationship with sibling, complications during pregnancy , bleed during pregnancy, anemia during pregnancy, complications during delivery, umbilical prolapse, poor nutrition during pregnancy, eysenck personality questionnaire N scores and P scores, total life events scores within a year were related to schizophrenia. Respectively, the odds ratios (OR) and ninety-five percent confidence intervals (95%CI) were 7.98(2.58-32.58), 3.27(1.72-6.26), 2.16(1.14-4.13), 3.32(1.60-6.94), 2.84 (1.50-5.40), 8.56(1.05-389.87), 3.96(1.79-8.88), 2.99(1.27-7.14), 5.14(1.01-50.04), 4.72(1.19-26.88), 2.70(1.14-6.50), 7.99(0.98-364.26), 7.88(1.67-73.59). Significant dosage-effective response was found in the variables of marriage, poor household living, tense relationship with parents, the total life events scores within a year. Multivariate analyses indicated that family history of psychiatry (OR=10.32 95%CI=1. 67-64. 02 ) , Introversive characters (OR=1.90, 95%CI=1. 13-3. 21) , single (OR=7. 49, 95%CI=2. 56-21. 70) , tense relationship with sibling (OR=3. 56, 95%CI=1. 06-12.05) , misfortune in childhood (OR=5. 14, 95%CI=1. 80-13. 16), the total life events scores within a year (OR=1. 003, 95%CI=1. 001-1. 006) , complications during pregnancy(OR=3. 50, 95%CI=1.15-10. 64) , complications during delivery (OR=3.42, 95%CI=1. 03-11. 36) , were the main risk factors of schizophrenia2. The case-control study on risk factors in troops92 consecutively first episode male inpatients in recovering with schizophrenia were collected in Department of psychiatry 3rd Hospital PLA and 256th Hospital PLA from November 1999 to march 2001, with the year of cases were 17 to 41 and the average age of patients was 24. 76?. 88. 92 controls that were matched with cases in age, sex, and residential area among non-psychiatric patients were collected in 3rd Hospital PLA and 256th Hospital PLA.
