Objective:PET imaging of malignant tumors with2- [fluorine- 18]-fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucos(FDG) as a tracer is anoninvasive diagnostic and prognostic tool that measures tumormetabolism. In this study,we assessed the relationship between theexpression of facilitative glucose transporter-1 and FDG uptake inpatients with primary lung cancer.Method:82 patients with lung cancer were imaged with PDG PET beforesurgery or biopasy. The expression of Glut1 of 67 bo the 82 primarylung cancer cases was studied in paraffin sections by SPimmunohistochemistry.Results: All tumors [n=82] could be detected by FDG PET. Uptakewas correlated with tumor size [P<0.01]. PDG uptake was lower inadenocareinomas(Acs) than in squamous cell carcinomas(SQCs) and thatof bronchial aveolar carcinomas(BACs) was the lowest[SUVmean =6.12±2.90, 4.35±3. 0 and 2.25±0.99, respectively] [P<0.01]. A11 tumors[n=67] tested were Glut1 positive[58. 28%±25.84% of tumor cell areawas positive and staining intensity was 3.75±1. 8]. Glut1 expressionwas higher in SQCs[69. 1±18.17% and 4.61±0.61] than in Acs[34.72%l22. 56% and 3. 71 l0. 86: both P<0.0l]. G1ut1 positive staining intensityns the 1o'est in BACs[2. 80l0. 89].
