Bioinorganic chemistry, as an emerging cross-disciplinary in the past few decades has made remarkable achievements and development. Inorganic (including metal ions, complexes, small molecule non-metallic, inorganic particles, etc.) and the interaction of biological macromolecules and the structure and function caused by changes in inorganic chemistry biology research is the basis of the study. Research such as the selective function of regulation and control of biological macromolecules and bio-inorganic molecules and its role in the mechanism; metal ions and the role of certain proteins in a combination of identification, molecular folding and selective aggregation; Design and Synthesis of macromolecules into the corresponding needle, selective cutting agent. Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) is a kind of key biological macromolecule, it is the basis of the chromosome of complex organisms, while it plays very important role in life genetic code′s interpretation, transcription and copy. Because DNA is the primary target molecule for most of anticancer and antiviral therapies according to the cell biology, so it often used in studies of nucleic acid′s probe. Nowadays, the investigation of interaction of DNA with other molecules has become the main research subject of chemistry and biology. It is helpful to develop a range of new biochemical reagents and it is useful to understand some diseases and the mechanism by which some medicines especially antitumor drugs. In this work, nine complexes of rare earth with curcumin are synthesized and characterized. The antibacterial activity of the nine complexes was also studied and the result of interaction of SmL3L′′compounds with DNA was reported. This thesis consists of three sections as follows:Part I Syntheses, Characterization and Fluorescence Properties of Rare Earth Metal Complexes with CurcuminThe complexes have been synthesized by the reaction of rare earth (III) nitrate with the first ligand curcumin and the second ligand 1,10-phenanthroline in alcohol solution (pH = 6.5~7.0). The composition of the complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, molar conductivity, thermogravimetric analysis, IR, UV-Vis and 1H NMR methods. The fluorescent properties of complexes were also studied at room temperature and it was found that all of the rare earth complexes shown the characteristic emissions of curcumin. The fluorescence emission intensity of ternary complexes was more intensive than that of the binary complexes.Part II Antibacterial Study of Rare Earth Metal Complexes with CurcuminStudy the antibacterial of rare earth metal complexes with curcumin. The results of antibacterial activity indicated that the complexs of REL3L′′have excellent antibacterial property for the testing bacterium than the other complexes and curcumin, especially Bacillus subtilis, has a broad spectrum antimicrobial.Part III Anti-tumor activity and the Cleavage of DNA of the Complexes of SmL3L′′The result of agarose gel electrophoresis suggested that the complex of SmL3L′′can cleave the plasmid DNA at physiological pH and temperature. The data showed that the cleavage of plasmid DNA depend on the concentration of the complexes of SmL3L′′. The higher concentration of the complex, the more decreasing of DNA super helix. Under the same concentration, the curcumin had obvious cleavage of plasmid DNA. And the complex of SmL3L′′had stronger cleavage of plasmid DNA than that of ligand. And the result of SRB suggested that the complex of SmL3L′′has batter Anti-tumor activity then curcumin.
