Studies On The Application Of Feeding New Compound Sugar Beet Pulp Products On Dairy Cows

The development of China dairy industry is rapid,however, there is great potential and gradually the direction of dairy development has to transform from quantity to quality, compared with other countries. With the serious problems of people and livestock sub-grain, the suger beet pulp as a non-food foodstuff has broad space for development. The beet pulp full of fiber and pectin is good palatability and nutrition, often is offered as a ruminant energy feed. This study consisted of two trials, to improve the feeding value of suger beet pulp and explore the effective use of industrial by-products, was conducted to research on the effects of new compound suger beet pulp products in different stages of lactation intake of dairy cattle performance and production compared with suger beet pulp unmolassed in diets.Trial 1: The trial was conducted in the early and middle lactation simultaneously to study the effects of sugar beet pulp with 15% condensed molasses solid-vinasses substituted for sugar beet pulp unmolassed in diets. There were 120 healthy milking Chinese Holstein cows were used in early lactation and 136 ones in the middle lactation, and were divided into control and experimental group, respectively. The animals were offered free access to 2 experimental diets consisting of a basal diet and the diet whose beet pulp unmolassed (1.5 kg) was replaced with equal beet pulp with condensed molasses solid-vinasses. Milk production in each cow was calculated as the percentage contribution of total contral, additionally, food intake, milk protein and fat of each diet were also measured and analysed with the statistical package SPSS. The trial lasted 40 days including 10d pre-trial and feeding results suggested below: (1)Comparing to contral cows, the milk production increased by 4.1% (P<0.05) ,DMI increased by 3.7% (P<0.05) ,and milk fat rate increased by 3% in experimental group in the early lactation.(2)In middle lactation cows,the volume of milk increased by 2.7% (P<0.05) , DMI increased by 2.2% (P< 0.05) ,the milk fat rate increased by 4.6% (P<0.05) ,and milk protein improved numerically,but lacked statistical significance (P>0.05) compared to contral group.(3) From the effects of feeding suger beet pulp condensed molasses solid-vinasses, the impact of early lactation was raised a bit larger than middle cows in the field of milk production and food intake,but on milk fat, feeding effect of early lactation was worse than the mid-lactation.Trial 2: A two phase 50 days trial was conducted to study the effects of sugar beet pulp with 15% molasses substituted for sugar beet pulp unmolassed in diets, the study was tested in the different lactation, which in the early and middle lactation. Ten healthy milking Chinese Holstein cows were used in early lactation, and ten cows from middle lactation. It will be a time-related trials with a change-over treatment along the trial periods. The experimental diets were fed basal diet to animals during first phase of 20 days of trial, and changed from beet pulp unmolassed to molassed beet pulp in last 30 days of trial, which replaced 3kg beet pulp. Fastened feeding management and free roughage intake. Milk production, food intake, milk protein, fat and milk lactose of each cow were measured and analysed with the statistical package SPSS. The feeding results suggested below: (1)Milk field and protein of the cows in early lactation lacked statistical significance (P>0.05) during two phases, DMI increased by 6% (P<0.01) , but milk fat rate and lactose rate increased by 1.1% (P<0.05) and 3.1% (P<0.01) .(2) In middle lactation, there is no significant difference on milk field during two phases, but cows fed molassed suger beet pulp had increased trend on mean milk field, DMI increased by 1.7% (P<0.05), but milk fat rate, milk protein and lactose rate respectively increased by 1.6% (P<0.05) ,0.7% (P<0.05) and 3.3% (P<0.01) (3) From improved effects of feeding molassed suger beet pulp, the impact of early lactation was raised a bit larger than middle cows in the field of milk protein and food intake, but on milk fat and milk lactose rate, impact of mid-lactation was a bit better.The new compound suger beet pulp products had a good effect in different feeding way in Chinese farms, which may played an important role in promoting sustainable path to the livestock industry, with good economic and social benefits.
