The research and application of RS-based crop growth monitoring and diagnosis would be important for facilitating development of informational and digital agriculture theoretically and practically.In this study,based on ground RS data and space RS,a RS-based monitoring and diagnosis system was developed and implemented by integrating crop monitoring models and crop knowledge model using software component technology.Base on preprocessing of space RS digital image,the system realized multiple functions such as the inversion of crop growth index and physiological index,the prediction of quality and yield from the point of small scale to the rural area of large scale,and crop growth real monitoring and regulation.The system lays a foundation for facilitating the quantification and digitization of crop growth real monitoring,diagnosis and regulation.According to the feature of RS digital image,the functions of geographic rectification and radiation correction and reflectance reversion were devised and developed through studying the methods of RS digital image preprocessing and reflectance reversion.The system overcomes the traditional RS digital image processing defects of depending on commercial software and cumbersome working procedure and others,and more suitable to the requirements of crop growth monitoring and diagnosis.Based on the analysis of existing methods for crop growth monitoring,practical and running crop growth RS monitoring models and function module were developed, and can monitor crop growth feature,physiological parameters,yield and quality indexes.Moreover,the functions of real monitoring and dynamic regulation for crop growth process were realized by integrating RS information and crop management knowledge model.The system provides technical basis for the acquisition of crop growth information and precise management.With IDL as development platform,RS-based crop growth monitoring and diagnosis system was developed practically and running using data sources of spatial and ground remote sensing.The system realized multiple functions such as file management,image processing,object classification and identification,vegetation index calculation,growth parameter monitoring,physiological parameter monitoring, yield and quality prediction,growth diagnosis and dynamic regulation,tool management,system help,and so on.Case study and testing of the system were carried out with space RS digital image of wheat and rice from eco-sites of Jiangsu province of China.The result indicated that the design idea and structure framework of system met the running requirements of crop growth monitoring and diagnosis,the system can be simply operated and results can be displayed intuitively.The system realized crop growth monitoring and diagnosis precisely and digitally.
