An experiment was carried out using 3 varieties of Yunnan, Anhui and local wild Artemisia selengensis Turcz. as experimental materials cultured in greenhouse to study comparatively difference in their growth and flavor quality. Another experiment was also done with red and blue-colored plastic films cover to observe their effects on growth and volatile oil of the plants. The main results are as follows:1. Compared with Anhui Artemisia selengensis Turcz. Yunnan Artemisia selengensis Turcz. showed much stronger growth vigor, earlier mature and with obviously higher biological and economical yield, therefore higher economic value. The wild Artemisia selengensis Turcz. growth much slower compared with the other two.2. From Anhui Artemisia selengensis Turcz. , 41 main volatile oil were detected which took 52.66% of the total oil and from Yunnan Artemisia selengensis Turcz. 36 main volatile oil were detected which took 49.13% of the total. The chemical compositions of the volatile oils were largely different. From local wild Artemisia selengensis Turcz. 50 main volatile oil were detected which took 77.31% of the total and the oil chemical structure were relatively close. The oils in the two cultivars were similar but remarkably different from those in the wild. The oil content more than 5% were Santolina triene, alpha-pinene and Di-epi-alpha-cedrene in both Anhui and Yunnan Artemisia selengensis Turcz., but Caryophyllene, alpha-Caryophyllene Cyclohexane and Dodecatriene in local wild. The percentage of main volatile oil content in total oils was 30.27% in Anhui Artemisia selengensis Turcz., 31.53% in Yunnan Artemisia selengensis Turcz. and 43.76% in local wild Artemisia selengensis Turcz.3. K and Mg content were in the order of Wild > Anhui > Yunnan; Ca and Zn content Anhui > Yunnan > Wild; Mn Anhui > Wild > Yunnan; P and Fe Yunnan > Wild > Anhui.4. Under red plastic film cover, Yunnan Artemisia selengensis Turcz also performed much better growth than Anhui and wild Artemisia selengensis Turcz.5. More than 35 main contents were detected from Yunnan Artemisia selengensis Turcz. grown under red film which took 58% of the total and 32 main contents were detected from those grown under blue film which took 51.90% of the total. Among oils extracted from both under different colored film 25 kinds were the same. And their relative contents were also close. The oil content more than 5% were Santolina triene, alpha-pinene and Di-epi-alpha-cedrene under different colored film .The percentage of main volatile oil content in total oils was 33.46% from Yunnan Artemisia selengensis Turcz. grown under red film and 29.21% under blue film.6. Compared with those under blue film, the K, Ca, Zn, Mn and Fe content in plants grown under red film were higher but lower Mg and P.
