The seed of ephedra was used as the experimental material. Three parts of research including the reasons and countermeasure of low germination, plot nursery and field nursery were conducted. The results showed that:1.The seeds harvested current year and received no treatment had low germination percentage that only reached about 16% during the first 20 days and most of them took a long time to germinate. About 4% of them were germinating after the 28th day.2.The seed coat is thick and compact, which resulted in the impediment of water absorption and the reduction of air-change speed, and influenced its water-swelling leading to seed dormancy; besides, there are certain substances existing in the seed inhabited the germination. Both of them caused the low germination percent.3.Both cold stratification and the treatment with gibberellic acid could increase the germination percentage significantly to 94% and 90% respectively, three times more than the control. Considering the effect and the cost, the former was superior to the latter.4.Different soil affected the seedling. The plant percent was 89.26% in orchard soils (pH 8.0), 82.20% in land (pH 8.1) cultivated for 1 year, more 72.4% in that (pH 8.4) cultivated for 3 years.5.There were effects of soaking seed in different reagents on the seedling. The percent reached 84.28% and 84.68% while the seed soaked in 0.5% KMnO4 and 1% CuSO4·5H2O solution respectively, more than 82.67% of that treated with sterile water; however, the effect was not obvious while it was treated with 5% thiophanate methyl solution, and the seedling percent was 81.16%.6.It was advantageous to the seed germination and seedling if the absolute water content of the soil kept from 19% to 24%.7.The proper temperature for the seed germination and seekling was 20℃~25℃.8.2cm was the suitable depth for sowing, and the seedling percent of the laminated seed increased to 88%, in addition, creating short period and high percentage of order seedling.9.The effects of plastic film mulching and wheat straw, plastic film and riversand mulching were significant, and the seedling percents of the treated seeds were above 44% and 60% respectively.10.Moisture retention and prevention from high temperature and weeds are important measures while nursing in summer and autumn.
