Apocynum venetum L., as a perennial herb, has both important ecological and economic value. Planting Apocynum venetum L. in saline-alkali soil in the west of Jilin province stands great potential. The main contents of this paper focus on the characteristics of soil chemical components and their impacts upon growth of Apocynum venetum L. in the west of Jilin province;the change of soil chemical components in this region and the distribution of soil chemical components for Apocynum venetum L..The results showed as follows:In the west of Jilin province, the maximum values of soil chemical components in different layers focus in 10-50cm; the index decrease under 50cm. In the soil profile, the amount of CO32- in different layer has the biggest variation range along the vertical section, and the volume of pH has the least variation range. We can use the soil in 0-40cm to describe the characteristics of soil chemical components over this area. The saline-alkali index has the seasonal difference which the soil samplinged at the same site ,The amount of Na+, CO32- and pH in the soil can be used to describe the characteristics of soil chemical components in this area. The relationship between salt contents and electrical conductivity(EC) could be expressed by y=0.0356x0.7324.The solute with low concentration could promote the germination of the Apocynum venetum L. seeds. The solute with high concentration could restrain the germination of the Apocynum venetum L. seeds.Compared with germination of seeds, the salt-alkali tolerance of seedlings get obviously weak. The result of principal component analysis showed that the volume of Na+, CO32-,pH and EC in the soil can be used to describe the soil salt-alkali characteristic where the Apocynum venetu L. grow. When the amount of Na+ is 0.0083~0.7551g/kg, the CO32- is 0~0.0225 g/kg, pH is 7.42~10.12 and EC is 90.70~608.75 us/cm, the Apocynum venetu L. could develop in the west of Jilin province.
