The objective of this study was to find out the laws of the compositive, distributive and seasonal changes of the intestinal microflora in the giant panda returned to the wild and to provide the first-hand data of the variety for the project which had returned the captive giant panda to the wild and was carried out by China Giant Panda Protection and Research Center. The results also could be used to arrange the food structure reasonably and make the giant panda returned to the wild pass the environmental and alimental change period without difficulties and diseases so that the survival rate could be increased.One young Giant panda returned to the wild and his twin brother in captivity in China Giant Panda Protection and Research Center were studied. The stool specimens of giant pandas had been sampled 12 times from January to December in the year 2004. Both aerobic and anaerobic transporting culture medium were used. Dilution, inoculation and quantitation were performed immediately in the normal way. Acording to the familiar intestinal bacteria which had been reported, 15 kinds of selective culture medium were adopted.
