Maize is one of the main crops in Xijiang and China, the planting areas of Maize in China is the third, only less than rice and wheat, the total yield and yield in unit area of maize is the second, only less than rice. Maize is the third main crop in Xinjiang, the annual planting area of maize in Xinjiang is about 43.3 ha, just less than cotton and wheat, and also is the second grain crop in Xinjiang, the yield of maize in unit area is 7761 kg/ha in 2001, is the highest among grain crops. Maize production is very important in the economic development of Xinjiang.With the reformation of agricultural structure in Xinjiang and China, the animal husbandry has been the focus of agricultural development. Silage maize will be new targets of maize breeding and production to meet the requirement to quality forages and feeds. But there are only a few silage maize varieties available to be used in production and the yield and quality could not meet the needs of animal husbandry development. Therefore selection of new variety of silage maize is urgent.The breeding work on silage maize had started in Xinshi seeds Co. Ltd of Xinjiang since 1998 to meet the requirement for silage maize hybrids in the silage maize production of Xinjiang. Xinshiduo 2 was selected in 2001.The experiments of variety comparison and production demonstration of Xinshiduo2 were conducted in 2002-2003. And Xinshiduo2 were also tested in the Xinjiang regional trials of silage maize in 2002-2003. The yield stability, adaptability, disease resistance, quality and characters, of Xinshiduo were studied in detail based on the data collected from those experiments.The performance of Xinshiduo2 were distinguished in the variety comparison experiments conducted in the sites of the farm of Xinshi seeds Co. Ltd of Xinjiang, Xinzhuang of Changji city during 2002-2003; the yield increase of Xinshiduo2 were significantly higher than the control in Xinjiang regional trials of silage maize during 2002-2003; the performance of Xinshiduo2 were distinguished in the production experiments of silage maize conducted in 10 sites, such as Changji, Hetian, Bazhou, etc. in 2002.The results from variety comparison experiments show: In two years, Xinshiduo2 reach fresh mass weight at 7094.35kg/mu, compare with Xinduo2 in increasing 43.3%;Fruit yield...
