Crocus sativus L. is a valuable plant of traditional Chinese medicine for many human diseases. Its stigmas contain not only expensive spice and pigment, but also bioactive components that can against cancer with little side-effects from the latest research. The very low yield of Crocus sativus L. and strict requirement for habitat result in its shortage for medicinal material and high price in the market. Some iniquity businessmen produce and sell the impurities of Crocus sativus L. which affect the quality of Crocus sativus L. and the safety of using. The impurities possibly contain something fake made of Zea mays L. and Carthamus tinctorius L., the dry androecium of Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn., Chrysanthemum chanetii. et al.We've done those studies to distinguish the true saffron from the fake fast and exactly:1. To find the patterns of the rDNA ITS sequence variation of Crocus sativus L. , Chrysanthemum chanetii. ,Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn. ,Zea mays L. and Garthamus tinctorius L. and to establish the molecular biological method for the identification of Crocus sativus L. and the others, we do these follow jobs.
