Rhizoma polygonati, the rhizome of plants in genus Polygonatum in lily family, have always been used as traditional medicine in China. More than 40 species were found in this genus, in which 31 were found in China. The rhizome of three Species of genus Polygonatum are qualified in China Pharmacopeia 2005 as good medicine: Polygonatum sibiricum Red., Polygonatum kingianum Coll. et Hemsl., and Polygonatum cyrtonema Hua.Polygonatum sibiricum Red. is perennial herbs. Rhizome usually shortly branched, subterete or tuberous terete, 1cm-2 cm thick. It's growing in forests, thickets, shaded slopes; 800m-2800m. Anhui, Gansu, Hebei, Heilongjiang, Henan, Jilin, Liaoning, Nei Mongol, Ningxia, Shaanxi, Shandong, Shanxi, Zhejiang [Korea, Mongolia, Russia (Siberia)]. In ancient times, the yield of P. sibiricum was only depended on wild resources. In modern times, wild resources shrank, while the market demanding unceasingly expanded, which all caused the increase of requirement of artificial planting. But no efficient research of the idioplasmic resources and biological characteristics of P. sibiricum could be relay on to setup a standard artificial producting system. To construct the P. sibiricum production quality control standard of Shaanxi province, a research of P. sibiricum idioplasmic resources and biological character in Lueyang County Shaanxi Province was carried out, from October, 2003 to May, 2006 with GAP principle instruction. Results showed that:1. P. sibiricum, P. franchetii, P. gracile and P. odoratum were found in Lueyang County. Wild Polygonatum plant investigation result shows that the distributing scope of P. sibiricum is in hillside or forest with 810m-1195m high and 25°-65°gradients. Rhizome growth depth 1cm-17cm, with less than 10cm leaves covered. Coverage rate within 20%-90%, light shielding rate 40%-95%, the soil type include loose muck soil, sandy soil, mantle rock soil and so on. P. sibiricum living in 800m-899m and 900m-999m altitude has the maximal wet biomass and wet rhizome weight, same statistic result appears in 53°-67°gradient treatment. With the gradient smooth down, wet biomass and wet rhizome weight decline markedly.2 Compared with the Polygona-polysaccharose and main characters of wild P. sibiricum...
