Oil-bearing rose belongs to the genus Rosa of the family Rosaceae, espe-cially referring to the ones from which the essential oil can be extracted, in-cluding some varieties of Rosa chinensis, Rosa rugosa, and other species of the genus Rosa. The oil-bearing rose has high ornamental value as well as commercial value. While now there are quite a few phenomenons of different varieties shar-ing the same name or the same variety with different names in China. But there are few researches on genetic assessment of the oil-bearing rose, the investigation and evaluation of the oil-bearing rose is considered as a very significant and urgent job. In order to cultivate new varieties of the oil-bearing rose, we should analyze the existed domestic varieties, and figure out the hereditary background and relationship between them. This research studied the genetic relationships between six varieties of oil-bearing rose(nine accessions) cultivated in China from the levels of bot-any characters and DNA molecular using numerical taxonomy and molecular biology technologies, which provided the theory basis and data support for establishing the estimate system of germplasm resources of oil-bearing rose, cultivating new varieties and popularizing the promising varieties. The content of this research included: Observation, record and description of botany characters of each growth period of the materials, clustering analy-sis of the materials based on the obvious different botany characters in order to show the genetic relationships. Genetic relationships between nine acces-sions were also analyzed by ISSR molecular marker technology and genetic similarity was analyzed in molecular level. The results are as follows:(1) According to the clustering analysis based on botany characters using Euclidean Distance and Ward's Method, nine accessions were divided into three groups (Num equals 20). Rose 1(Rosa damascena'HuZhou'), rose 2(Rosa damascena'HuZhou'), rose 3(Rosa damascena'PingYin') made up of the first group; rose 4(Rosa rugosa var. plena), rose 8(Rosa rugosa'Fen-gHua'), rose 7(Rosa sertata×Rosa rugosa) formed the second group; rose 6(Rosa rugosa'ZiZhi'), rose 9(Rosa rugosa'ZiZhi'), rose 5(Rosa rugosa'LengXiang')were the last group.(2)The results of ISSR indicated that a total of 135 bands based on 8 prim-ers were detected, out of which 123 were polymorphic (91.11%). The genetic similarity coefficient is 0.66 in average which distributes between 0.398 and 1. Clustering analysis showed that the 9 accesstions could be distinctively classified into 2 groups. Among the first group, there are two sub-groups. Rose 2(Rosa damascena'HuZhou'), rose 3(Rosa damascena'PingYin') made up of the first sub-group, and rose 1(Rosa damascena'HuZhou') made up of the second sub-group. In the second group, rose 4(Rosa rugosa var. plena), rose 8(Rosa rugosa'FengHua') made up of one sub-group. Rose 5(Rosa rugosa'LengXiang'), rose 6(Rosa rugosa'ZiZhi'), rose 9(Rosa rugosa'ZiZhi') made up of another sub-group. While rose 7(Rosa ser-tata×Rosa rugosa) was classified to the last sub-group. The results of correlation analysis showed that there was significant corre-lation between the similarity coefficients obtained by the methods based on botany characters and ISSR with a correlation coefficient of -0.777(p<0.01),which indicated that the results of the two methods were quite consistent, scientific and objective. Also the botany characters reflected the genome well.
