Coix L. could be used as food, medicine, fertilizer and forage, it was known as"the cereal of health and life". Its germplasm resources are very rich in Fujian Province and Fujian is one of the major productive provinces in China. The germplasm collection and studying of Coix L. were not enough for breeding and improving for long times. Coix's seed vigor was affected by storage and it was needed to study. The starch quality of Coix's seed is the main factors which affected the productions of Coix. But the starch structure comparison of Coix and rice had not relevant reports. Coixan have a good anti-cancer effect and made it a widespread attention. Coixan content changes after seed germination provided the basis for utilization of the Coix's seed. This thesis compared agronomic traits of Coix in main productive areas in Fujian Province, the vigor between new and old Coix seed under normal storage conditions, ultra-structure of starch granules of Coix and coixan changes after germination. This thesis were consisted with four parts: (1) The agronomic traits of different varieties (lines) of Coix L. in Fujian; (2) Comparisons of the vigor between new and old seeds of Coix L.; (3) Comparisons of the the starch microstructure of rice and Coix L.;(4) The changes of coixan after germination.(1) The agronomic traits of Coix L. from main productive areas in Fujian were analyzed in this paper. The results were showed that there were relationships between 10 agronomic traits. The kernel rate were high significant correlation with seed number per plant, but high significant negative correlation with the kernel weight, and significant negative correlation with the setting start node; kernel weight were high significant negative correlation with the seed number per plant; seed number per plant were highly significant negative correlation with the setting start node. Principal component analysis showed that the first 4 principal components accumulated for 91.96% and contains most information of the major agronomic traits. The characters of Coix Agrextis Lour and Coix lacryma-jobi L. were also studied. The results showed the stem girth, the growth and development of C. lacrym ajobi was slower than that of Coix Agrextis Lour. Their habit of flowering (throw pollens) was during 9:00-10:30 and 11:30-13:00.(2) The vigor between new and old seeds of Coix L. under normal storage conditions was studied. The results shown that the germination potential, the germination percentage, the germination index, the vigor index, the seedling length and the dry weight of seedling of the new seeds are all better than those of the old seeds. The difference in the germination potential, the germination percentage, the germination index and vigor index between the new seeds and the old ones is significant. The electrolyte leakage rate of the new seeds is lower than that of the old ones.(3) The ultra structure of Coix's starch granules had been observed by SEM. There were greater difference among Coix varieties (lines) and rice. Compared to rice, the starch granules of Coix were smaller, looser and more spherical. There are significant gaps among granules and the surface of granules is smoothly and some holes on it. And there were channels through granules.(4) The changes of coixan after germination were studied. The results showed that after germination the coixan was significantly greater than before. The coixan had significant difference between different varieties (lines). The coixan of lin-1 was highest, then Puyi-6 and Tian-II, the last one for the Tian-I. There were not significant interaction effects between germination duration and the varieties (lines).
