Larix principis-rupprechtii, Larix gmelini and Pinus sylvestris var.mongolica have the characteristcis of liking light, resisting cold not sensitive to all kinds of soil, which is the major tree species in Saihanba to build plantations to prevent wind, fix sand and conserve soil and water. Judging from the status of afforestation in Saihanba region, most of mountains with the better site conditions have been greened well, leaving infertile mountainous with serious sandy soil, low nutrient content and thinner soil, difficult for survival of afforestation. What that is often happen is planting trees but couldn't see forest even though some trees survived they cannot grow very well. Moreover, seeds are very expensive with a lower survival rate so that it is a limitation to produce seedlings extensively. All these faults could be avoided by containerized seedlings.Taking growth conditions of different matrix of Larix principis-rupprechtii, Larix gmelini and Pinus sylvestris var.mongolica as study targets, the experiment was designed using a single factor random block by ANVOA and regression analysis to study the effects of different matrix on Larix principis-rupprechtii, Larix gmelini and Pinus sylvestris var.mongolica as well as physical and chemical indexes. The results are as follows:(1)Different matrix showed significant difference to seedling height, basal diameter and lateral root of three species and very significant difference to dry weight, fresh weight, and the ratio of dry weight to fresh weight. But there was no significant difference among matrixes with the main root length of Larix gmelini.(2)Total P and quick-impact P contents of matrixes were the main factors affecting the growth of Larix principis-rupprechtii and Larix gmelini Total N and total P were the main factors affecting the growth of Pinus sylvestris var.mongolica.The best medium for culturing container seedling of Larix principis-rupprechtii was a mixture of humus, sheep manure, calcium Super phosphate and ferrous sulfate (30∶15∶4∶1). with bulk density 1.01g·cm-3, total porosity 61.89%,saturated water of soil 52.86%, total P content 0.98g·kg-1, quick- impact P content 66.67mg·kg-1, total K 5.33mg·kg-1,quick-impact K contents 310.44mg·kg-1, total N 0.137g·kg-1, available N 144.04mg·kg-1,organic matter of 50.67g·kg-1, and slightly acidic soil(pH=6.2),was optimal matrix. The best medium for culturing container seedling of Larix gmelini and Pinus sylvestris var.mongolica was a mixture of humus, sheep manure,yellow soil(30∶ 15∶5). with bulk density 1.03g·cm-3, total porosity 61.13%,saturated water of soil 51.33%, total P content 0.71g·kg-1, quick- impact P content 51.59mg·kg-1, total K 3.46mg·kg-1,quick-impact K contents 101.86mg·kg-1, total N 0.158g·kg-1, available N 101.52mg·kg-1,organic matter of 39.42g·kg-1, and slightly acidic soil(pH=5.6),was optimal matrix.
